Tan Wei Xuan

After completing her undergraduate degree in Environmental Science, Wei Xuan worked in the environmental education sector for a year. Wanting to gain more hands-on conservation experience, she left for the Philippines for 3 months where she worked as a volunteer research assistant with a local NGO on their Whale Shark Research project. It was in the Philippines where her interest in elasmobranch conservation and research and Illegal, Unreported, Unregulated (IUU) fishing grew.

Wei Xuan's current projects:

  • Fish Maw Trade in Singapore – This project aims to better understand the growing industry of the fish maw trade in Singapore. The results gathered from this project will then seek to fill information gaps in this sector, and to further understand the demands of fish maw consumers and what influences consumer behavior.
